Remix of immigration songs

tactiSpecial music program: immigration songs

Every year since 2004, the "Origines Contrôlées" Festival takes place in Toulouse, France, at the end of the year. Organised by the Tactikollectif and the French artists Mouss et Hakim, it gathers immigrant artists to give due recognition to the role of immigration in French history.

This program offers a remix of broadcasts by Radio Mon Pais during the November 2008 "Origines Contrôlées" Festival. >> LISTEN!

From the festival, Mouss and Hakim released the album: "Origines Contrôlées, Chansons de l'immigration algérienne". With this project, Mouss and Hakim and their musicians revisit choruses of songs written by migrant worker artists and played in Algerian cafés in Paris in the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. "Origines Contrôlées" does not aim to be nostalgic; rather it revives these songs in a very contemporary manner and reconnects with the notion of transmission. From Slimane Azem to Cheikh El Hasnaoui, from Salah Sadaoui to Matoub Lounès, this repertory in Kabyle, Arabic and French reflects everyday life and concerns of first generation immigrants, and makes their voices heard. Following the "Motivés" and "100% Collègues" experiences, we find here the invigorating energy of singers and musicians, who are passing on a precious heritage.
