December 18
The mission of December 18 is to promote respect for the human rights of all migrants worldwide and advance their full participation in society.
The main guiding principle of December 18 is that migrants’ rights are human rights. December 18 believes that its role and purpose in the promotion of this principle is through information dissemination and the effective implementation of international norms and standards that promote and protect the human rights of migrants.
The two main programmes of December 18 focus on:
1) Mainstreaming migrants rights throughout the UN system, with an emphasis on the work on the UN Migrant Workers Convention.
2) Promoting International Migrants Day (IMD) as an opportunity to celebrate the contribution made by migrant as well as to highlight their plight.
A number of private foundations, government agencies and international organisations have supported our work over recent years: Inter Pares, Oxfam-Novib, UNESCO, the Flemish Government, Nationale Loterij (Belgium), the Network of European Foundations for Innovative Cooperation (NEF), Atlantic Philanthropies, the King Baudouin Foundation, the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, and the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy.
